Cryptoeconomics is a new field with many developing career paths. Specialty areas include: the technology aspects of blockchain such as distributed networking, cryptography and messaging; law and policy that comes into play when dealing with currencies and investments that are subject to taxation; and the economics of these new currencies and tokens, just like anything else in the world that is of value and tradeable publicly such as fiat currencies (dollars, liras, etc) and commodities.

Understand peer-to-peer (P2P) computer networks and learn about existing P2P networks.

Blockchain

Learn how blockchain networks grow and the economic incentives that are required for healthy blockchain networks.

Bitcoin

Describe and explain the history of Bitcoin - how it came to be, who built it, and how it is maintained.

Cryptoeconomics

Understand basic Cryptoeconomics, use existing crypto economic models, and design crypto economic models.

Practical skills applied on real-world projects.

Once pupils have the knowledge and skills, they’ll apply them to a practical project for some real-world learning. The design curriculum culminates with real-world Design and Marketing projects. Industry and company needs change fast, and so do the projects as they evolve to match these changes.

Below are some examples of past projects:
Fund Strategy Project

The company is an international specialist bank and asset manager that provides a diverse range of financial products and services to a select client base in the UK and Europe, South Africa and Asia/Australia, as well as certain other countries.

Working in Asset Management, Wealth & Investment and Specialist Banking, the company is listed on the London and Johannesburg Stock Exchanges. The group’s combined current market capitalization is approximately £4.7 billion. For this project, students worked to analyze the low interest rate environment in South Africa to determine what strategies would work best to implement a new credit-based retail fund.

Information Memorandum Project

The organization is a family office and advisory business. They provide investment and wealth planning services to high-net-worth individuals, families, selected institutions and charitable trusts. They manage global assets in excess of $650 million.

That makes them one of largest independent advisory firms in South Africa – and growing. Interns worked to deliver an information memorandum for an equity partner. This included analysis of historical and financial performance, an independent DCF with commentary, reasonability check of information and forecasts provided by management, sector, and industry analysis.

Footprint Expansion Project

The company is a property development investment firm active in the Netherlands. They specialize in developments and long-term investments to which they can add risk-bearing value.

Projects in their portfolio range from housing (purchase and rental), student accommodation, commercial properties and offices. For this project, the students looked at how to expand the company’s investment portfolio into Spain and Portugal. Interns analyzed investment properties in these markets and built ROI models.

Pricing Strategies and Token Design

Students will work for companies who would like to create a token to use for equity, or another application that is useful to them (e.g. for staff stock options). Students will use Ethereum as the platform to publish these tokens and handoff the contract to the company as a deliverable.

Use-case Consulting Project

Students will conduct a research project, and write a white paper about why a company should or should not use blockchain technology. The deliverable will also include what the economic considerations for the given token are - supply, participation incentives, etc.
